BFU Arbitration Court (in)competence

20.01.2010

In a letter to Georgi Gradev, dated 20 January 2010, the Executive Director of the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU), Mr. Borislav Popov, explains that the BFU Arbitration Court is not competent to terminate employment contracts and Gradev could not agree more with such stance.

However, the BFU Arbitration Court keeps on terminating employment contracts and ruling on the consequences deriving thereof (e.g. recent cases involving players and coaches and the clubs Spartak Varna, Botev Plovdiv and Volov), which is totally illegal, pursuant to Art. 360.1 of the Labour Code, in connection with Art. 117.1 of the Constitution and Art. 19.1 of the Code of Civil Procedure.

Georgi Gradev responded accordingly and requested the instant resignation of the BFU's Executive Director and President, Mr. Borislav Mihaylov.
